Харківське видавництво «Західня Україна» та доля його очільника Василя Атаманюка

Abstract

У статті досліджуються досі не оприлюднені в науковій спільноті документи Центрального державного архіву-музею літератури і мистецтва України щодо діяльності видавництва «Західня Україна» та її керівника Василя Івановича Атаманюка. З’ясовано, що постать видавця й письменника висвітлювалася здебільшого під кутом зору його літературної спадщини, але в життєвій біографії В. Атаманюка вагоме місце займає його редакторська та видавнича діяльність, на що майже не звертали увагу науковці. Стверджується, що тема висвітлювалася лише фрагментарно; усебічного вивчення біографії члена Спілки революційних письменників «Західня Україна» та директора однойменного видавництва, звинуваченого у сфабрикованій «Справі УВО», досі не було; отже, дослідники мають змогу розширити уявлення про історичну постать і процеси, що відбувалися в літературному середовищі та видавничій галузі у 1920–30-х роках. Доведено, що діяльність В. Атаманюка на посаді директора видавництва була плідною, оскільки саме на початковому етапі видавництво вирішувало найголовніші питання свого функціонування: фінансування, репертуар, гонорарні відносини, кадрові зміни, участь у громадських та культурницьких заходах Спілки тощо. Більшість художніх і перекладних творів письменника й видавця вийшли саме під час його перебування на посаді директора видавництва. Проте, як свідчать документи, маємо справу із суперечливою особистістю — правдолюбом, не здатним мовчати, й водночас інтелігентною людиною, поліглотом і вправним редактором. Уперше до наукового обігу введено документи, завдяки яким розкривається діяльність видавництва «Західня Україна» та його очільника В. Атаманюка.

The article studies documents of the Central State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art of Ukraine that have not yet been made public in the scientific community regarding the activities of the publishing house “Western Ukraine” and its head Vasyl Ivanovych Atamaniuk. It is determined that the figure of the publisher and writer was covered mostly from the point of view of his literary heritage. Still, in the biography of V. Atamaniuk, a lot of space belongs to his editorial and publishing activities, which is almost not paid attention to by scientists. It is argued that the topic is covered only fragmentarily. A comprehensive study of the biography of a member of the Union of Revolutionary Writers “Western Ukraine” and a head of the publishing house of the same name, accused in the fabricated “UVO Case”, did not take place, and therefore researchers have an opportunity to expand their understanding of the historical figure and the processes that took place in the literary environment and the publishing industry in the 1920s–1930s. It is proven that the activities of V. Atamaniuk as a head of the publishing house were fruitful, since it was at the initial stage that the publishing house solved the most important issues of its functioning, such as: financing, repertoire, remuneration relations, personnel changes, participation in public and cultural events of the Union, etc. Most of the literary and translated works of the writer and publisher were edited during his tenure as a director of the publishing house. However, as the documents prove, we are dealing with a personality full of contradictions, a lover of truth, unable to remain silent, at the same time an intelligent person, a polyglot and a skilled editor. Therefore, for the first time, documents are introduced into scientific circulation, thanks to which the activities of the publishing house “Western Ukraine” and its head V. Atamaniuk are revealed.
