Ідея української державності у видавничій діяльності Михайла Максимовича

Abstract

У статті проаналізовано погляди М. Максимовича на походження українців та їхньої мови. Акцентовано увагу на тлумаченні М. Максимовичем назв Русь, руський у значені український, заперечення науковцем норманської теорії державотворення, а також його позиція щодо походження інших народів від українського. Досліджено питання про джерела, за якими М. Максимович вивчав історію України і її мови. Проаналізовано аргументи, на основі яких М. Максимович доводить відмінність східнослов’янських мов від західнослов’янських. Розглянуто роботу М. Максимовича у галузі історично-порівняльних досліджень української та російської мов, на основі чого вчений українську назвав старшою за російську.

The article deals with the analysis of M. Maksymovych’s views on the origin of Ukrainians and their language. The accent in put on pro-Ukrainian standpoint of the scientist and publisher of books on the history of Ukraine and history of the Ukrainian language, in which M. Maksymovych gave grounds of independence and ancient origin of Ukrainians and their language. The analysis is done on the basis of books «WhereRus comes from. After rendering Nestor’s narrative and other ancient Rus writings» and «The History of ancient Rus literature and folklore».The attention is concentrated on M. Maksymovych’s interpretation of the names Rus Russian in the meaning «Ukrainian», his objection to Norman theory of state creation process and his standpoint concerning the origin of other peoples from the Ukrainians. Special attention is paid to M. Maksymovych’s opinion about Rus called Kyiv Rus. Besides, the scientist traces the time of the first mentioning of the name «Ukraine» (in the Kyiv Chronicle at the end of the XIIth century, in 1187 exactly).The author researched the question of sources on the basis of which M. Maksymovych studied the history of Ukraine and its language: critical analysis of exiting historic investigations («The History of Rus people», «The History of Russian Minor» by D. Bantysh-Kamenkyi, «The History of Little Russian» by M. Markevych), and the main point is the study of original sources (documents, archive, records and the rest).The author analyses the arguments on the basis of which M. Maksymovych proves the difference of East-Slavonic languages from West-Slavonic ones and singles out principal characteristic features of three languages (Ukrainian, Russian, Belarussian), which he classifies within East-Slavonic group.The author analyzed M. Maksymovych’s work on historic-comparative analysis of the Ukrainian and Russian languages. As the result of such analysis M. Maksymovych came to the conclusion that both these languages are separate ramifications of East-Slavonic group of languages (which separate nationalities or ethnic groups agree with), and he considered the Ukrainian language older then the Russian one.
