Abstract

The crisis in the local press segment is getting worse. Under the current circumstances, district and local community newspapers continue to be published thanks to subscribers and local benefactors. This is evidenced by the several success stories presented here. However, the financial situation of the population is noticeably deteriorating during the war. People have to choose: either to subscribe to the newspaper or to give the last of their money to the army and save their country’s independence and their own lives. Perhaps this is a simplistic approach, but we must be prepared for this. Ukraine is fighting for freedom in the midst of a brutal war at great cost, and independent print media are an important tool for preserving national identity.
